Its not really good to eat mulch but the amount eaten the type will matter. Some have colors added or even chemicals. There is also coco mulch made from the husks of the plant we get chocolate from.
That is very toxic to dogs but Im not sure how common it is. Why does my puppy eat twigs and mulch. Then barbecue it before eating it.

Hes driving me NUTS. Hes our new dog 11 months old. And its a multiple time a day hassle.

Mulch since it is made of wood can splinter when chewed thus causing irritation abrasions tears perforations or blockage. Too many rocks can block the gastrointestinal tract which may need surgical intervention to resolve.
